Saptah

December 29–January 1

Saptah is Kripalu’s annual end-of-the-year ritual: the continuous two-day chanting of the Sanskrit mantra "Om namah shivaya." Setting a tone that fosters a state of deep inward focus, the sacred healing sound resonates throughout the entire building, inviting everyone into quiet reflection at this time of transition.

All Kripalu guests are welcome to participate. You can come and go as you please, joining early in the morning, at lunch time, between sessions, or in the evenings. Whether you chant or not, you receive the benefits of this transformational tradition and the sacred space it creates. Those who live nearby are also invited to come and participate.

Live chanting begins the evening of December 29 and continues from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm for the next two days. At night, a recording of the chant is played—with chanters always welcome. Saptah culminates mid-evening on December 31 and gives way to a high-energy kirtan and soulful celebration. At midnight, we sit together in the stillness of meditation, savoring the moment.
