Evenings at Kripalu

there’s something happening every evening—365 days of the year.

Kripalu presents a variety of informative, engaging, and inspirational evening programs every night of the year, including experiential workshops, concerts, movies, workshop samplers, and dance events.

Kripalu’s evening programs are free of charge to Kripalu guests and staff, as well as Berkshire Kripalu Community (BKC) members. Occasionally we host special ticketed events, such as concerts, book signings, and dances.

Dinner is available for an additional $18. Tickets may be purchased through Registration, the Front Desk, or the Kripalu Shop.

All evening programs begin at 7:30 pm unless otherwise specified. Please check the Guest Information Boards on-site for more information.

Sunday Meditation
Learn and practice meditation to calm the mind, relax the body, and open the spirit.

Monday Drum Circle
This transformative hands-on workshop with Kripalu drummers will guide you through a series of world beats, enabling you to discover and explore your own innate rhythms. Whether you drum regularly or have always wanted to try, join us. Bring your drum or use one provided. Dancing is strongly recommended.

Tuesday Cooking Workshop
Feed your body, mind, and spirit as one of Kripalu’s kitchen staff shows you how to prepare a nutritious and delicious meal. You’ll take home the recipe and so much more!

Wednesday Kirtan
One of the oldest sacred music traditions of the world, the kirtan (call-and-response chanting) comes to us from India. Using ancient Sanskrit mantras, the kirtan calls upon sacred energies that serve to quiet the mind, remove obstacles, and bring us back to the center of our being.

Thursday Movie Night
Go beyond the multiplex. See documentaries, foreign films, and little-seen independents. Past films have included Touching the Void, Impromptu, An Inconvenient Truth, and Searching for Debra Winger.

Friday Experiential Workshop
Our workshops take the ancient themes of yoga and offer them as current and viable tools for modern living. Integrate this information into your body and spirit through activities like movement, stretching, conscious listening, journaling, and more. Check daily schedule for our host of topics.

Saturday Concert
Award-winning songwriters, soulful singers, amazing instrumentalists, and much, much more await you in an exceptional evening of unique and exhilarating music from throughout the world.

Evening Concert with Ubaka Hill and the ShapeShifters

Join Ubaka Hill and members of the ShapeShifters, a multicultural, multi-instrument ensemble of talented, skilled musicians, for a joyous celebration. Experience healing and soulful joy as you take in transformational soundscapes that reveal the power of intentional music.

An Evening with Sylvia Boorstein: The Lifelong Joyful Journey

This evening, Sylvia Boorstein will explore the landscape of the spiritual journey in the same delightful conversational style that has made her books such a success. Defining the goal of this journey as “the joyful experience of the non-afflicted mind fully able to love,” Sylvia sees the journey remaining the same over time, even though the view looks different as it evolves. She has watched how her own experience of “Now I truly understand” is continuously superceded by “Now I really truly understand.” The evening will include readings from Sylvia’s five books, and conclude with a book signing. Free for everyone.

Sylvia Boorstein and Stephen Cope team up to lead three days of meditation and yoga in their program Divine Abodes.



Kirtan with Krishna Das

Combining devotional yoga, Western grooves, and soulful chanting, Krishna Das has been called the “Chant Master of American yoga” by the New York Times. Join him for a joyous evening of call-and-response chanting with his special brand of devotional music, energized with contemporary melodies accessible to Western hearts.

Interfaith Seder: A Journey to Freedom and Pluralism

The Biblical story of coming out of Egypt (Exodus) is the ancient tale of a people’s freedom restored. Hear this story and other mythical freedom narratives from our diverse and pluralistic society. Join Rabbi Sigal Brier for an inspiring evening of stories and songs that will beckon you to listen to the voices of freedom and renewal in our midst. This event is free and open to all.

Join Rabbi Sigal Brier for a weekend examining the teachings and practices surrounding the Jewish holiday of Passover in her program Kabbalah of Freedom and Renewal, March 26–29, 2009.



Celebrating Peace: An Intimate Kirtan with Snatam Kaur and GuruGanesha Singh

One World, One Heart: Kirtan with Russill Paul

Come prepared to liberate your voice and dance your prayers to rich musical accompaniment with Russill Paul and Kripalu musicians. The intention of this evening’s kirtan is moksha, the liberation of the soul that is the true significance of Easter.

Concert with Nawang Khechog

In this special evening, celebrated Tibetan musician Nawang Khechog will share his spiritually meditative music. The concert will emphasize themes of love, compassion, and kindness, with a solo performance by Nawang and collaboration with other musicians.

Evening with Shawn Stevens and Friends

Shawn Stevens is a soulful Mohican shaman who leads ceremonies and lives his life as spiritual medicine. Through flute, drum, dancing, and singing in the Native American tradition, he will share prayer and ceremony, accompanied by his friends.

Evening Concert with Dave Stringer

Join Dave Stringer, a leader of the new American kirtan movement, for this exuberant and inspiring event. Kirtan, an ancient practice of mantra chanting that has become popular as a participatory live music experience in yoga studios throughout the world, lifts the spirit, opens the heart, and inspires the mind. As Dave says, at a kirtan “You’re not just listening to the music, you are the music.”
