KRIPALU CENTER LAUNCHES SCHOOL OF AYURVEDA
Newest Professional Trainings Serve Growing Need for Integrative Health Practitioners
LENOX, Mass., January 5, 2005 - Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, the nation's largest yoga and holistic health center, welcomes the first students of its new Kripalu School of Ayurveda in January 2005. This professional training school addresses a growing interest in Ayurveda, the oldest continuously practiced health-care system in the world.
This holistic sister science to yoga uses nutrition, herbs, detoxification, individualized lifestyle recommendations, yoga, meditation and rejuvenating body treatments to create optimal health and well-being. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine reports that more than 42 percent of Americans are turning to integrative medicine, including Ayurveda. In addition, a Journal of the American Medical Association study found that people turn to alternative healing because of its focus on the mind-body connection and individualized lifestyle recommendations.
"Many health-care practitioners and wellness centers are adding Ayurveda to their repertoire because of its individualized focus, its ancient roots and its systematic approach to health," says Hilary Garavaltis, an Ayurvedic practitioner and Dean of Curriculum for the Kripalu School of Ayurveda. "Yoga teachers and bodywork instructors also are finding that Ayurveda expands their ability to support their clients' search for well-being in an increasingly stressful world."
The faculty features world-renowned Ayurvedic experts, including Vasant Lad, Robert Svoboda and John Douillard. The first weekend certification program begins January 14, 2005.
"The Kripalu School of Ayurveda provides a natural next step for us," says Kripalu Center President Garrett Sarley. "For more than 30 years, we've been leaders in helping people create healthy, meaningful lives. Ayurveda offers practical, potent tools for promoting a life of balance, vitality and fulfillment."
The Kripalu School of Ayurveda continues Kripalu's tradition of professional trainings, using its well-known approach to experiential learning and immersion study. In its 30-year history, Kripalu has trained more than 6,000 yoga teachers, bodyworkers, Kripalu DansKinetics® instructors and holistic lifestyle educators.
The Kripalu School of Ayurveda offers two certification programs: Ayurvedic Consultant and Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist. Trainings conveniently take place during weekend sessions once a month and take from 7 months to 2 years to complete, including home study. Individual courses are also open to those not seeking certification.
Kripalu Center offers more than 700 experiential programs in yoga, self-discovery, holistic health and spirituality that present ancient yogic principles in a contemporary, accessible, yet profound way. Educational programs are designed to provide participants with tools they can apply in their daily lives. Kripalu Center has served people of all backgrounds for more than 30 years and is located in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts, less than three hours from Boston and New York City.
